AGM Update and New Board

Happy Sunday Everyone,

We wanted to provide an update post AGM as we know not everyone could attend.

The key points from the AGM were questions surrounding Diversity and Inclusion, Financials, as well as the parent and coach feedback survey.

At the AGM we could not introduce a new by-law based on the by-law requirements at that time. However, within the new structure it is a major part of our portfolio’s and is something that Metro West Force is committed to. Furthermore, we will be taking the points under advisement for future considerations in governance change. With the current board re-structure, we have 4/11 positions or 36% occupied by females.  When we elect our Athlete representative this will push this number to 5/11 or 45% of positions occupied by females. We still have a vacancy for Director of Membership Growth, and we are encouraging anyone who is interested to reach out to any board member. For further specifics on the role of Director of Membership Growth please contact a board member.

Financially, we had inquiries around a further breakdown of finances. Stay tuned for more information regarding this.

Also stay tuned for more information regarding the parent/coach feedback survey results.

As mentioned, new by-laws were implemented which resulted in a new Board structure. Elections were completed and a new board was formed. After the first board meeting, two other positions were filled.

A warm welcome to the following members:

President – Tim Sheppard (NEW)

VP Hockey Standards – Mike Almond (Returning)

VP Finance – Kelly Peck (NEW previously vacant position)

VP Hockey for Life – Greg Saunders (Returning)

VP Safe Sport – Warren Feltham (NEW)

Director of Coach Development – Amanda Boulegon (NEW)

Director of Administration – Marge Ancliffe (NEW)

Director of Hockey Operations – Peter Giles (Returning)

Director of Membership Experience – Genaya Cameron (NEW)

Director of Membership Growth – Vacant

Director of Athlete Representative – Vacant

For the board members that will not be returning, we have huge gratitude for all your contributions to Metro West Force.  Without your efforts we would not be where we are today.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Metro West Force Executive.

Interest in submitting for a Board Position

Good Day,

As we have previously released. Metro West Force is proposing changes in the upcoming AGM.

Should they pass, a new board will have to be elected. This will be done at the AGM should the new Governance and By-Laws pass.

The current Executive wanted to send a note to our Membership should anyone wish to express interest in running for one of the positions.

If you are unsure, we will be holding an information session on how this will look. We have submitted instructions on how to register and participate in a different email.

If you are interested, please send an email to elections@metrowestforce.com .

Please include the specific position you are interested in running for. You will have time to submit for a position after the information session should you wish to attend to gain additional information on the position you have interest in.

We ask that people who are expressing interest do so on or before July 1st to allow the agenda and election details to be finalized.

Metro West Force has obtained the assistance from someone outside of the current board to compile the names and conduct the election at the AGM.

We strive to provide a fair and equal opportunity to anyone wishing to be involved. We hope to attract people who have a passion and interest to consistently and innovatively push the game to the next level. We firmly feel our Membership and Players deserve it.

Metro West Force is changing its Board and By-Laws

Members,

Our organization continues to grow and develop. To support that growth, we need to reorganize and change. To make these changes, we need your help.

The Metro West Force Executive Board is recommending a new structure for the Board, captured in a revised set of By-Laws. These By-Laws will be presented and voted upon by you, the members, at the Metro West Female Hockey Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 7, 7-9pm at the HRM 4-Pad. Changing the By-Laws requires a Special Resolution, which means that we need a three-fourths majority of voters to vote in favour of the changes.

What do we need from you?

First, we're asking for your support for these changes, as the "shareholders" of Metro West Force. The proposed new By-Laws are attached to this message. We have also created a two-page explainer that gives an overview of the new structure and highlights other significant changes. That document is also attached. Please read and review these documents, and come to the AGM prepared to vote. We will also be holding an online Town Hall on June 23 at 7pm, where the Governance and Structure Working Group will present the changes, and be prepared to answer your questions. The Google Meets invitation for the Town Hall will be sent out soon.

Longer-term, we need great people like you to fill the positions on the new Board and its sub-committees! If the new By-Laws are approved at the AGM, we'll be moving immediately to elections to fill the positions on the Board. After you have reviewed the new structure, feel free to reach out to any current Board members to talk about your interest in playing a leadership role in our organization.
