Mental Health Jumpstart Grant

We are excited to share that Metro West Force Female Hockey Association has been selected to receive a Community Development Grant from Canadian Tire Jumpstart and Sport Canada. With this support from Jumpstart and the Government of Canada, which through Sport Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative has provided $6.8 million in funding to Jumpstart to support organized sport and to help community organizations kick start local organized sports that are accessible to all, we will be able to introduce Mental Health programming within our association.

This programming will include Mental Health First Aid sessions for Team Staff in age divisions U13-U18. These sessions will help equip our Team Staff with the knowledge needed to get members to be more open about what they are experiencing, and provide knowledge on how to handle a Mental Health crisis.

This programming will also include group sessions for our Players in age divisions U11-U18. These group sessions will help our Players develop competencies around managing their own Mental Wellness as well as supporting their teammates.

Along with Jumpstart, we understand the importance of sport for the health and well-being of kids and their families and are proud of the work we do to provide community sport and play. We further recognize the importance of Mental Health Awareness and look forward to delivering content that both supports Mental Health and further reduces the stigma that surrounds it.

MWF Registration for 2022-2023

*** UPDATE as of Aug 27th ***

Partial payments/installements are now available in GrayJay

***

Registration is now open.

PROGRAM ORGANIZATION:
We have two programs available: recreational and competitive.

The recreational program is a community-oriented program structured to provide development and competition at the recreational level while offering additional flexibility to families and athletes to participate in other sport or extracurricular commitments. In this program, the average week would have players on the ice with their teams for 1 game and 1 practice (travel for games/practices will be limited).

The competitive program teams will compete in a province wide loop, as such the travel and time commitment at this level are higher than those at the recreational level. The average week would have players on the ice with their teams for 3+ hours of game/practice time. NOTE: As part of their team budgets, individual teams may also decide to pick up additional ice time throughout the year.

Also included within the registration fees, additional development ice sessions will be available at all the above levels.

Goalie Development

Have you ever thought about being a goalie?  Now is your chance to give it a try.  Hockey Nova Scotia is pleased to offer the following initiative for first-time goalies in the metro area:

For any Minor or Female players in U11 or higher who are considering playing the goalie position in the 2022-23 season, we are offering three FREE 1.5 hour goalie development sessions.  The first two sessions will be Sept 17 and Oct 22 at the BMO Centre in Bedford.  The third session will be early in 2023.  In collaboration with the associations, we will provide the goalie equipment for the first two sessions.  Players will be grouped in either U11/U13 or U15/U18.  In addition to the development sessions, any first-time goalies from these sessions who stay in the goalie position all season will have half their hockey registration reimbursed at the end of the season.  Attendance is limited to 20 players per session so get your name in early.

To summarize, for first-time goalies, on Sat, Sept 17 there will be a 90 min session for a U11/U13 group and a 90 min session for a U15/U18 group.  The same for Sat, Oct 22.  Gear can be provided if needed.  There will be one more session in early 2023 for each group.  All sessions are free and will be in Bedford at the BMO Centre.  Any players who attend the sessions and stay with the goalie position all season will be reimbursed half of their hockey registration.

Thank you.
