December 21 - COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS UPDATE FROM HOCKEY NOVA SCOTIA

Please review the latest update from Hockey Nova Scotia.  At this time, Metro West Force will still be shut down for all practices and MWF sanctioned events until further notice.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good evening everyone,

Earlier today, the province announced new gathering limit restrictions across Nova Scotia that will significantly impact hockey. To read the complete announcement from the province, please click here.

The following restrictions are effective at 6 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 22) and will remain in place until at least Jan. 12, 2022:

  • only virtual events are allowed – there are no in-person events such as festivals, social events, special events (including receptions), sports games or tournaments, or arts and culture performances
  • a limit of 10 participants indoors and 25 outdoors applies to sports practices and training; physical distance is not required, and masks are recommended when possible indoors and outdoors; spectators are not allowed
  • Nova Scotia children ages 11 and younger continue to be restricted from participating in sports and arts and culture events outside the province

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HOCKEY

Today’s announcement will greatly impact our teams, associations, and leagues over the next few weeks. As of tomorrow morning, the following will take effect:

  • Games and tournaments are not permitted
  • maximum of 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) will be permitted in the field of play for practices and training; physical distancing is not required during these sessions, but masks are required everywhere in the facility but on the ice
  • Spectators will be not be permitted at any activities
  • Travel restrictions remain in effect that prohibit children age 11 and younger from entering or leaving Nova Scotia to participate in sports

We understand the past week, like the past two years, has been challenging. We appreciate all of your efforts to keep our players on the ice during these very difficult times. We will pass along any updates to you as soon as we have them.

We hope you all stay healthy and safe during this holiday season.

COVID-19 Update - MWF Full Shutdown

Good evening MWF families,

Given rising case numbers of COVID-19 in central zone and the continued impact on our Association we have come to the very difficult decision to shut down all practices and MWF sanctioned events until further notice.

We understand this is not the ideal situation and not what most of you wanted to hear. However the safety of our players, coaches, and team staff remain our top priority. And as a membership we feel this our best course of action at this time. We will keep you updated as case numbers evolve and provide an update regarding the re start of ice times as soon as we are able.

We wish you and yours a very happy and healthy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Metro West Force Executive

December 16 - COVID-19 Update

Hi everyone,

Taking a number of factors into consideration in addition to the increasing uncertainty and shift in Covid 19 cases; we have made the decision to hold all games and travel for this weekend effective immediately (including this weekend and early next week).

Obviously not an easy decision, or one that was taken lightly; we felt it is the right one to help stay aligned with NS Health guidelines (limit travel and consistent/smaller groups to minimize spread). Our number one priority is the safety and well being of our players, coaches, team staff, and referees.

Teams will be assigned ice times for practices; Peter will reach out to individual teams to advise them of ice times.

At this time and based on what we see today, our hope is to be back in full swing, regular schedules (games, travel) after this natural break in our schedule in a couple of weeks (Late December/Early January). More to follow on that one.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters together.

December 13 - COVID-19 Update

Good evening MWF families,

We continue to work closely with our partners at HNS to understand changes and new guidance being applied to hockey Provincially coming out of today's announcement from the Department of Health.

We understand you all have lots of questions and concerns related to the current situation, especially coming into the holiday season. We will do our best to keep our schedule as "normal" as possible, but we need to take additional precautions to ensure we move the safest possible way. Public Health has mandated that consistent groupings be maintained.  Details on upcoming games will follow, but as it pertains to development sessions and practice ice, starting this week:
  1. Weekly player and goaltender development will be put on hold, but resume following our holiday break.
  2. As we are freeing up ice from development (above), we will work to lessen shared practice ice for this week. This will serve as a mini-circuit breaker, giving us time to understand the emerging situation and respond to HNS direction. We will reach out to individual teams who are currently sharing ice to try to find new ice times.
We will pass along any additional updates from HNS as soon as we get them, we will reach out to everyone, through our usual channels, with broad communications and work with teams individually as required.

Sincerely,

Metro West Force Executive

SMU Skills Development

MWF is excited to release the schedule for Wednesday night Development sessions.  We acknowledge that there have been some growing pains this year with a growing organization (good problem) and lack of ice in HRM, but through the challenges has emerged a great opportunity and Partnership with SMU Hockey.  These are extra sessions provided by the association and are NOT charged back to teams or take away from your allotted number of seasonal practices.
SMU hockey had stepped up to help not only with ice time but to create a partnership with SMU Varsity players and our MWF players, "See Her, Be Her!" in action.  The scheduled sessions below will give our MWF athletes the opportunity to interact on ice and learn from SMU Varsity players.

Coaches what do you need to know:
  • MWF coaches are needed to be on the ice to help facilitate the sessions
  • MWF coaches are expected to review the practice plans which will be a focus on fundamentals skills.  The practice plans are also shared with Chris Larade and in turn the players, however these players are balancing highly demanding schedules of their time so MWF coaches should be prepared to get stations rolling and SMU players can offer coaching and assistance.  If the SMU players appear well briefed on the lessons and eager to lead stations let's encourage that.
  • Please ensure the SMU Varsity athletes feel welcome to lead drills if they so choose and offer corrections to players as they work on these skills daily and have a lot to offer our players.
We are truly hoping this is an opportunity we can grow in the future so hopefully we can keep the experience as positive as possible.  These players are at the top of their game right now and leading the nation in CIS so this is all stuff for our MWF players to be excited about!

Thanks Coaches!
